Welcome back!
Over the past month there was no shortage of annual predictions about what will happen in AI in 2025 (including ours). To kick off 2025, we thought it would be fun to use AI to sort through 100 different predictions made by a bunch of smart people and come up with the top five themes across all of these predictions, with color around why that theme was important.
We used a combination of Gemini Advanced and ChatGPT and fed predictions from:
Fast Company: “25 experts predict how AI will change business and life in 2025”
Samba Nova: “Nine Predictions for AI in 2025”
Stanford HAI: “Predictions for AI in 2025: Collaborative Agents, AI Skepticism, and New Risks”
Rob Toews: “10 AI Predictions For 2025”
1. Agents, Agents, Agents
Summary: Predictions frequently mention the mainstream adoption of agentic AI—intelligent assistants capable of handling complex tasks autonomously. These agents will span industries, replacing or augmenting human roles in areas like IT support, sales, and customer service, redefining human-AI collaboration.
Why This Matters: The predictions indicate a clear technological shift from generative AI to functional, task-driven agents that demonstrate tangible ROI, which aligns with market demands for productivity and efficiency.
Probability: 85%—Trends like multi-agent systems, enterprise adoption, and consumer applications suggest this is already underway.
2. Integration Across Modalities and Platforms
Summary: AI will extend its presence into multimodal applications, seamlessly combining text, voice, and vision across consumer and enterprise platforms. Voice will dominate as the interface for interactions, while multimodal AI systems will break ground in healthcare, entertainment, and personalized services.
Why This Matters: The convergence of modalities addresses user demands for intuitive, accessible technology, and companies are rapidly iterating on multimodal solutions.
Probability: 75%—While progress is clear, achieving seamless and consistent implementation across industries may encounter technical hurdles.
3. Ethical AI and Regulation
Summary: The shift toward embedding ethics into AI products and tighter regulatory scrutiny will emerge, driven by consumer trust, safety concerns, and geopolitical considerations. Ethical innovation will become a competitive edge.
Why This Matters: Predictions emphasize public backlash against unethical AI use cases and increasing pressure from governments to regulate AI effectively.
Probability: 70%—While ethical practices are growing, fragmented regulatory landscapes may slow global adoption.
4. AI-Driven Efficiency and Specialization
Summary: Businesses will move from experimental to execution-focused AI, targeting specific, high-value applications such as sales optimization, healthcare insights, and real-time operational efficiency. Energy-aware scaling will also become critical.
Why This Matters: Economic pressures and demands for measurable returns on investment are pushing enterprises toward precision and efficiency in AI deployment.
Probability: 90%—Economic trends and corporate needs make this nearly inevitable.
5. AI as a Catalyst for Cyber Threats
Summary: Hyper-personalized deepfake scams, AI-driven cyberattacks, and fraudulent AI behaviors will escalate, exploiting the capabilities of generative and agentic AI for malicious purposes.
Why This Matters: The darker side of AI development underscores the dual-use nature of this technology, and its potential to undermine trust and security.
Probability: 80%—The rapid democratization of generative tools makes this highly likely.
Bonus Spicy Take
We also asked for a bonus spicy take:
Prediction: A major, well-known tech company that has been rapidly developing will be caught fabricating performance results or misrepresenting the capabilities of its models to an extreme extent, leading to a significant crisis of confidence in the industry and potentially sparking a "winter" of reduced investment and increased skepticism.
Probability: 35% (It's a spicy take for a reason!)
Wrapping Up: The Road Ahead for AI in 2025
These predictions highlight just how far-reaching AI’s impact will be this year, touching every industry and company. We believe these predictions will impact everyone from scrappy startups to large enterprises across various verticals. As these trends take shape, they’ll bring opportunities and challenges that extend well beyond what we can imagine today. We have been discussing many of these predictions for some time now, but we’re excited to see how more of these get into production in the year ahead. But, it’s also a chance for companies to consider the broader ripple effects. What second- and third-order impacts could arrive from these predictions and what enabling technology do we need to build to be ready for these technologies to actually unfold? What new business models may emerge?
We’ll explore many of these topics in more depth in upcoming posts, digging into how they might play out across different sectors and what they could mean for businesses. It’s clear that 2025 will be a pivotal year for AI, and we’re looking forward to seeing how these predictions unfold.
Stay tuned!
